Gnosis is a dj / producer / culture-junkie from Atlanta, Georgia, USA. With musical roots in, well, roots, Gnosis has spun conscious reggae + dub of all kinds while always blending and balancing it with drum+bass and other progressive genres. He's been a resident at the legendary MJQ + it's much-lauded and much-louder offspring, MJQ Concourse since 1994; heading up such nights as Dub Kung Fu, Rinse Out, and Tokyo FM ('longside mate Delarosa + Asora/ Savath+Savalas/ Prefuse 73). As a member of the TEAM ROLLERS crew, he helped to hold down Atlanta's longest-running drum+bass oriented night at a ghetto honky-tonk called Dottie's. For a quick history of this scene, check out Estro's Atlanta club timeline.

Speaking of Estro, he, Prefuse 73 and Gnosis have begun a weekly Saturday night at the fabulous, forward-thinking new spot in Atlanta: Teaspace (in Little Five Points/ tel: 404 577 9793). The night is designed as a jumping-off point for our new, community-based EASTERN DEVELOPMENTS record label. The early part of the evening (10-12:30) includes dubplates and white labels of upcoming East Devs tracks as well as an assortment of past and future fusion including exclusive, new material from Warp Records. Then things lock-down late night as Gnosis lays out a solid mix of Afro-Bleep, Dirty South Dub, Blue-Bass, and Shit-Hop.

While more recently Gnosis has been exploring and mixing in sounds of all kinds from North + West Africa : urban, rural, indigenous, and remixed by the likes of Frikyiwa and Nuphonic recordings, the MP3s on this site, however, reflect a distinctly Deep South take on drum+bass....

enjoy and let
us know what you think.

( big ups to ESTRO for the history + links! )
